Breve curso de escritura crítica - Luigi Prestinenza Puglisi

A synthetic writing course designed for critics, particularly architecture critics, organised in 39 short lessons to avoid two common and unforgivable mistakes: boring the reader and making the reading unnecessarily complicated. 

The reading of these pages is obligatory for researchers and university professors, generally engrossed in the content but not very skilled at making their thoughts attractive due to a lack of literary resources. Reading is optional, but strongly recommended for those who are engaged in architectural criticism, whether in publications or in their own blogs. 

In fact, tips and tricks are suggested for being brief, capturing the reader's attention, not being confusing, avoiding hackneyed images and commonplaces, avoiding flattery or fierce criticism. There is also technical advice on how to organise a bibliography, words to avoid, literary style and the most effective beginnings. 

The book does not follow a logical order. The lessons have been written without a concrete outline in mind, as lessons for a critical writing course organised by the Italian Association of Architecture and Criticism at the Luigi Sturzo Institute in Rome. 

Luigi Prestinenza Puglisi

(Catania, 1956), is an architect, Professor of History of Contemporary Design at the Rome University of Fine Arts (RUFA) and President of the Associazione Italiana di Architettura e Critica. An essayist and architecture critic, his books have anticipated the Italian architectural debate on relevant contemporary issues. His main works include: La Storia dell'architettura 1905-2018; Rem Koolhaas. Trasparenze Metropolitane; HyperArchitecttura; This is Tomorrow, a vanguardie e architecttura contemporanea; Tre parole per il prossimo futuro or New Directions in Contemporary Architecture: Evolutions and Revolutions in Building Design since 1988; as well as Breve curso de arquitectura crítica. He writes for numerous magazines such as L'Arca, Abitare, Construire, Domus, Architectural Design, A10, etc. and since 2003 he has been the editor of the digital magazine presS/Tletter.
