The polysemic condition of the word Proximities implies notions of the proximate as the near, and the proximate as the forthcoming. On the one hand, it refers to everything that is close and specific to a given place and/or context. In turn, it implies everything bringing us closer, uniting us, and everything which we share as students and teachers, researchers and professionals. On the other hand, it also speaks of the future, of what is to come, of what should occupy us to face new challenges in our discipline, as seekers of 'the next', as protagonists of the near future. There is a spatio-temporal coincidence, a meeting place, in the interest of the DPA in these issues that opens a possible way to establish a dual relationship of closeness between the parties.

Emerging and specific research has been tracked in multiple cultural and academic institutions and research centers that constitute relevant voices in the current architectural debate. A global perspective has been adopted, with the firm intention of welcoming diverse voices and representatives. To the dominant Western discourse, we intertwine distant and discrete protagonists whose discoveries and speculations have much to contribute not only to their nearby contexts but also reach a global impact. The polysemic condition of the term Proximities has been organized into six distinct categories: Ecologies: Urban Resilience, Preservation: Up-Cycled Architecture, Geopolitics: Pan-Territorial Identities, Housing: After the House, Public Space: the Public and the Common, Media: Other Narratives.
