Crónicas distantes - Brijuni Architects

Halfway between introspection and the desire to engage in conversation, the texts in this book are the result of a literal and somewhat forced journey to the Arabian desert. This journey involves leaving behind the pleasures of Madrid and facing the many renunciations of a desert without an oasis, in a singular journey through the joys and shadows of the architectural profession. Seen from the inside, this new reality oscillates between emotion and ataraxia, although it happens that the initial illusion and fear of a new life in Saudi Arabia turns into weariness and a certain bourgeoising with time, where the epic disappears. The physical distance between Madrid and Riyadh is overlaid by another of an emotional nature, where uprootedness and the struggle to maintain the illusion are in permanent conflict, both in architecture and in life. 

Beatriz Villanueva Cajide

Doctor of Architecture and Master in Advanced Architectural Projects and Architect (ETSAM), Master in Management of Virtual Spaces (Fundación Antonio Camuñas). Her thesis "Strategies for the production of Architecture in the Digital Age. Nine manifestos written between 1992 and 2004" received the COAM Doctoral Thesis Award 2020. 

Francisco J. Casas Cobo

Doctor in Architectural Communication with his thesis "The crisis of modern architecture in the debates of European magazines in the 1950s and its repercussions in the United States", architect and Master in Analysis, Theory and History of Architecture (ETSAM). In 2003 they founded in Madrid 

bRijUNi architects

Architectural crisis and literary speculation studio whose work has been presented and disseminated nationally and internationally, notably at the Ordine degli Architetti P.P.C. della Provincia di Milan (2013), "Towards Dubai 2020, architecture in a transient city" (2017), and "Arquitectura Dispuesta: preposiciones cotidianas" in Shanghai (2017), Madrid CentroCentro (2015-6), Mostra Espanha Evora (2015) and CAAC Sevilla (2014). They have published more than a hundred texts in print and digital media, both general, specialised and scientific.
